Akimi-chan asked:
according to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keno#Detailed_mathematical_analysis the odds of catching 10 numbers out of the 20 drawn out of 80 in total, is 253.8, My lottery makes it possible that I can play 254 selections simoultaneusly for the same draw.
Will I win for sure with one of these 254 combinations??
I’ve been trying to calculate but can’t really seem to get to a conclution, please explain with math/probability if possible.
it seems I wasn’t clear enough in my previous details. In my country, Lottery’s Keno Jackpot is reached with ONLY 10 numbers out of the 20 drawn from the total 80.
SO basicaly I would win my jackpot if I could just get 10 numbers correct. Now my question again, will I win for sure if I play 254 combinations at once?
Can I win the Keno Jackpot for sure if I play 254 different selections?

You won’t for sure win, but on average you will catch 10 numbers out of 20 WHEN YOU PLAY A 20-spot ticket!!!
That’s the key….Wikipedia is talking about the odds of hitting 10 when you play 20 numbers!
You are thinking that you play 254 combinations and you’ll win $100,000. No.
You only win $100,000 when you make a 10-spot ticket and hit ALL 10 spots! The odds of this are way lower!
Read the article a bit more. If you go down to the last sentence of the article you linked here, you’ll actually see Wikipedia state the following:
“Perhaps not surprisingly, despite the astonishingly high payoff for strong performance, the ten-spot game is by far the poorest from the player’s perspective.”
Check out the rest of the article, too! It shows the BEST way to play is the 3-spot game, but even THAT has only a 72 cent return expectation! That means for every $100 you spend playing Keno, you should only expect to get $72 dollars back. And that’s only if you’re playing the BEST possible game in Keno!!!
No matter how you slice it, Keno is one of the worst games you can ever play. The only thing with lower payouts per dollar is Lottery. (That’s about a 50% take.)
Of course not. That’s an average. The only way to win for sure is every possible combination.
